1. Vernissage in the German School Doha
"Abstract 3D structured surface techniques"
On June, 9th 2011 the German School Doha (DSD) hosted the first Vernissage of the new art class "Abstract 3D structured surface techniques".
Ten students from this class, set up by Susanne Fornasier, presented their works to a large number of international guests. The feedback from the audience was enthralled. The school's principal, Mrs. Ilka Detampel, complimented the variety and amount of the exhibits in her opening speech. She emphasized the fact, that the DSD should not only be a school but a cultural hotspot.
The entertaining program was provided by the schools children choir under the direction of the music teacher Mrs. Ehrlich. They were supported by a string quartet from the Qatar Philharmonic Orchestra.
"The challenge of this class is that we don't get all the material I know from Europe. The amount of material I can get there is tremendous: marble dust in different kind of granulation, slate splinters etc. So we used the sand we could find here. And there is a lot of sand around. The pastes were not ready made but produced with acrylic binder and Qatari sand. Therefore the pictures show a uniqueness which reflexes not only the Qatari land but represents a way of mixing modern techniques with tradition." Susanne Fornasier said to one of the guests.
And indeed, the exhibits reflect the magic of the orient (even though some subjects are more European).
1. Book Publication
The work of Susanne Iris Fornasier shown in this book was part of an exhibition called "Kunstsalon Dorfen 2007". The exhibition organized by the Rotary Club Dorfen, is an inherent part of the art scene in Dorfen, respectively in the county of Erding since 2004. Each participating artist has to design a fixed number of sheets for a limited edition catalogue of the "Kunstsalon Dorfen". According to Rotary's philosophy, the proceeds of the sale will be invested in a social and/or charitable project. For the book Susanne extended the design sheets with "Haiku" (Japanese poem). The 15 unique pictures are not only a visual experience but a poetic emphasis inspired by the motives.
The book is in German but contains an English translation in the appendix.
